Kid Scoop Team Favorites

"Each member of the Kid Scoop team has a beloved childhood book. Mine was The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. In this season of giving and receiving, it is a great tale of the meaning of giving and love." -Vicki Whiting, Founder of Kid Scoop

Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever by Luna Rising Editors: "It may have been called the best word book ever, but for me, it was the best picture book ever. It was packed with hundreds of amazing illustrations, with each item labeled, of things like the seashore and cities and airports and cutaway views of buildings. There really was no story but I could look at it for hours and imagine living in the world of Richard Scarry's animal characters." -Jeff Schinkel, Illustrator

"The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Graham was the first book I purchased with my own money. I can recall the magic of the book shop on the day I made that purchase. But that was nothing compared to the magic of the riverbank and the warm companionship of Mole (my favorite), Ratty and Badger. I read it in one sitting from start to finish and have read it many times since. It is certainly a childhood treasure." -Vivien Whittington, Production Manager

The Story of Ferdinand by Author Munro Leaf: "I used to watch the bullfights with my granddad on Sunday afternoons when I was a child. I remember just loving this story because Ferdinand didn't want any part of the bullfighting and just loved smelling the flowers and being peaceful. I thought he was so cute and the illustrations were simple but told the story well." -Holly Garcia, Accounting

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum: "L. Frank Baum paints incredible pictures inside your imagination through his use of vivid details in this classic story. As a child, I absolutely loved the film starring Judy Garland which, of course, led me to finally read the book. If you love the film, you will fall even more in love with the book. There is so much more to the magical land of Oz then we knew!" -Ellen Toscano
