The U.S. Department of Education's program, America Reads Challenge offers lots of ideas and resources for encouraging reading during summer vacation. While its primary goal is literacy by 3rd grade, parts of the program are geared to older children. Check out the Summer Home Learning Recipes for parents and children through grade 12.
