Ben Franklin

Ben Franklin’s Achievements
http://bensguide.gpo.gov/benfranklin/index.html
Audience: All ages

This is one of the best guides for kids to the U.S. government. Naturally, it’s a great place to learn about Mr. Benjamin Franklin, a favorite of the “founding fathers.” The way to start learning about our federal government is by clicking on one of the kites at the top of the page (it’s not a very obvious starting place.) Some kites are for kids. Others are for teachers and parents. Choose the kite that fits your age-interest. Click on one of the links at the bottom of the page to learn about Ben the printer-librarian-inventor-statesmen.

Ben’s Aphorisms

Audience: Elementary school classrooms

Dear old Ben Franklin; nobody speaks as well for him as he does for himself. Here is a lovely, long list of his statements. They make perfect points for classroom discussion. “When the well’s dry, we know the worth of water.” “Who is rich? He that rejoices in his portion.” Here’s one for you married ladies: “One good husband is worth two good wives; for the scarcer things are, the more they’re valued.”

Fun With Franklin

Audience: All ages

Talk about having fun with Ben Franklin! The "Electric Ben Franklin" celebrates this most important man, one of the first Americans. He sort-of started public libraries, for one thing. Check out the menu bar on the left. Did someone say "fun and games?"
