Susan B. Anthony History of Susan B. Anthony Day Holly Matthews developed this 3rd - 4th grade level lesson plan, celebrating Susan B. Anthony Day on February 15th, which honors a leader in the movement for women's right to vote. You can accomplish a lot during this 3 to 4 class period; simulations, brainstorming, writing, applications, assessments, and more. I like how this lesson plan begins with one person’s life then, demonstrates how her interests are everyone’s interests. The Trial of Susan B. Anthony If you like primary source documents, this site is for you. Buttons take you to a 100-year chronology surrounding the trial of Susan B. Anthony, a biographical sketch, her letters and a speech concerning women’s right to vote, a complete record of trial, suffrage cartoons and more. There is no lesson plan here, but the documents would be easy to present to students with your invitation to question what they say and if/how they seem part of today’s world. Start by printing out some of the cartoons then asking students to explain them. That might lead into a really exciting exploration of the world of political cartoons. Standards Correlations OK, this looks boring but could be valuable. Hey! Don’t turn the page. You might need this. Click here and you’ll find the Curriculum Correlation Documents for Susan B. Anthony. If you’re teaching in California and teach to standards, click here and you’ll see “chapter and verse” from the state standards that are met by a Susan B. Anthony lesson plan. |
