Building character in students means understanding and acting in ways that are kind, fair, and respectful of others. Recognizing actions that exemplify these traits increases the chance that these character-building behaviors will be repeated. This issue features a challenging board game where everyone gets to practice, discuss, and identify behaviors that demonstrate best practices for getting along with others. Along the way students will recognize what respect looks like—and sounds like—in their community, at school, at home, in nature, and towards the environment—a “win-win” for all!
In this issue students will:
- read informational text about getting along with others
- play a non-competitive game where everyone wins
- understand written rules for a board game
- play Respect Bingo using observation and memory skills
- recognize polite and respectful behavior in others
- locate examples of respect and fairness in the newspaper
- divide and “share” a pizza equally
- write about ways to win even if you lose!
