de-sleepSleep is something we all have in common. Understanding why the body needs to rest and how many hours of rest is appropriate is the topic of this issue focused on health. Students will learn how the body reacts as the sun goes down to signal that it’s time to rest and how cycles of sleep bring on dreams or nightmares. Internet links take students to resources that: calculate how many hours they need to sleep each night; help students discover how much sleep animals need; and provide sleep games and puzzles.

In this issue students will:

  • learn about sleep cycles
  • understand how the body works as a system to provide the rest it needs
  • use the newspaper to plan a healthy meal for an athlete
  • use the newspaper to practice writing in complete sentences
  • use the internet to locate resources for games, puzzles and interesting sleep facts
  • conduct a poll and summarize results
