Budding astronomers will hop onboard the Kid Scoop rocket ship and head to the moon. As our nearest orbiting body, the moon appears to grow, shrink, light up, disappear, and change colors as it shifts in space. One moon marvel is a lunar eclipse—a celestial phenomenon also nicknamed a “blood moon”—when sun’s light makes the moon take on a red or brown glow. Conduct your own experiment at home to understand how a lunar eclipse occurs. Now exit the rocket ship and describe a typical day in your new lunar home while gazing at Earth far below. Fasten your harness! It’s time to blast off!
In this issue students will:
- read informational text about a lunar eclipse

- follow specific written directions
- conduct a simple scientific experiment
