Cinco de Mayo joins the list of U.S. holidays that recognize and honor the traditions of other cultures. This fiesta celebrates the defeat of the well-armed French militia by a smaller Mexican army on May 5, 1862. Food, dancing, music and games provide a backdrop for fun while preserving an important cultural connection for Mexican-Americans.
