Modern day leprechauns have novel methods of getting around, and if their magic works, they could even hop a ride on a flying gadget just their size. A drone is neither plane nor helicopter, but a miniature combination of both. With a camera attached, drones become an eye in the sky and can go places too dangerous for people. This new piece of technology is not a toy, however, and owners must understand rules and practices to keep safe and be respectful and responsible users. Flown appropriately, drones can provide a bird’s eye view of just about anything. They can save lives, track weather, photograph significant and historical events and provide feedback data to safety crews. A leprechaun could surely fit on top, but drones can maneuver quite well on their own, too!
In this issue students will:
- Learn about safe and respectful practices with drones
- Read expository text
- Crack a flying code for a special message
- Use the newspaper to locate adjectives
- Edit text
- Research and read critically about pros and cons of technology
- Write creatively about flying pigs!
