Recycling has been popular among animals long before humans began practicing responsible environmental habits. In fact, nature has its own version of a “clean up” crew that handles a dirty job—recycling animal waste! The industrious and busy dung beetle moves hundreds of times its weight in animal waste in a single night. These hefty heavers are even organized into squads for specialized services including rolling, tunneling or just plain dwelling! Their efforts nourish the soil and keep our gardens, fields and forest floors sprouting new plants.
