Rev up your engines and get ready to race cars without engines! How can this be? What could be strong enough to race a care without a motor to move it? Gravity is the answer. Gravity pulls all objects towards the center of the earth. This issue focuses on engineering in a fun and engaging project. Students will follow written directions to build a race car from a cereal box and learn about gravity, drag and friction along the way. They’ll learn how to make a race, why it rolls slower or faster and what happens if you add weight. Newspaper activities send young readers on a scavenger hunt to seek out examples of gravity in the news.
