Among the most famous of the ancient worlds, Greece’s influence has survived the test of time. From democratic forms of government to the Olympic games to architectural design, a trip to Greece links the past to the present for young explorers. Masters at the art of storytelling, Greeks teach lessons through mythological heroes like Hercules who fooled Atlas into carrying the weight of the world. The one-eyed Cyclops was ancient history’s version of the modern day monster. The day’s journey ends with a stop in Athens where the splendor of the Parthenon offers a lesson in classic design.

In this issue students will:

• read myths and practice sequencing skills
• learn about symmetry in Greek design and identify symmetry in familiar objects
• use the newspaper to create a Herculean solution to a problem
• discover the Greek connection to the constellations
• use the internet to uncover more about Greek Gods, myths, games and creatures
