Playing sports helps children develop skills while having fun and learning about teamwork. Because sports typically involve running, jumping, throwing and physical contact, it’s critical that the equipment used keeps young athletes safe while on the field, court or in the arena. That’s where science, technology, engineering and math (known as STEM) come in. Designing, testing and improving equipment involves teamwork, too! In this issue students will learn about the evolution of a football helmet and compare features over time. Along the way, students will discover that their love of sports could turn into a STEM career.
