The holidays are a perfect time to compare cultures and traditions. Students will enjoy learning about the similarities and differences of celebrations including Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and Christmas. An invitation to join in a civic engagement activity of Christmas Bird Counts for Kids provides an opportunity to link young readers nationwide while learning about the bird species in their own backyards.
In this issue students will:
- Learn about the similarities and differences of three holiday celebrations
- Complete holiday puzzles using concentration and patterning skills
- Create an art display using illustrations from newspaper pictures, ads and words
- Spell holiday words correctly and use parts of speech in a holiday story
- Conduct a poll and summarize results
- Use the internet to learn more about holiday service projects
