Nations across the planet celebrate different holidays, but all countries can share one special holiday! July 30th was officially proclaimed by the United Nations in 2011 as the “International Day of Friendship” based on the belief that friendship contributes to a more peaceful and caring world. Studying other cultures, visiting a foreign city, learning a second language, or adopting a pen pal living outside your country are just a few ways to build international understanding while celebrating our multicultural planet. Although children around the world have different customs, language, clothing, and food, there are many commonalities that connect hands and hearts across borders—love of family, finding joy in new experiences, dancing and singing to express ideas, and dreaming about a future where peace, prosperity and a healthy plant benefit all. How might you honor the International Day of Friendship?
