Holiday celebrations come in different packages with colorful wrappings and traditions that only multiculturalism can bring. Kwanzaa is a non-religious event that honors African-American culture. “Habari Gani” is to Kwanzaa what “Merry Christmas” is to Christmas—a way to greet the holiday by asking “What’s the news?” in Swahili. This issue describes the seven day celebration, its origins, symbols and traditions that honor family, ancestry and community. Come join the fun!
