When hiking at night, people use headlamps or flashlights to show the path. Cars are equipped with bright headlights to make traveling safer on a dark night. But ships and boats at sea must depend on instruments and other safety devices to guide them home safely. As they near land, especially on foggy or stormy nights, mariners depend on lighthouses to send a welcoming beam that shows the way to safe passage. Lighthouses have been guiding seafarers for centuries, and these sanctuaries come in all shapes, sizes, and designs to meet the challenges of rugged coastal waters and terrain. Join our Kid Scoop ship as we sail to shore! With the help of a lighthouse beam, we’re sure to have a safe landing!
