Meet the “King of the Jungle”—an elegant and large member of the feline family that doesn’t live in a jungle at all! Lions roam savannas and have long been regarded as “royal” in the animal world for their size and strength. Like humans, they live in families and have plenty to roar about protecting their “pride”, or family group, from other predators. This issue highlights features—like size, shape, sharp teeth, claws and camouflage—that help lions survive successfully in the wild. Join us on this adventure as we journey to the plains of Africa and discover what it is that makes a lion the king of the kingdom.
In this issue students will:
- read expository text about lions
- follow a code to discover facts and features for survival
- find your way through a lion maze
