What if you could earn a living by reading and writing? This issue highlights someone who did just that almost 200 years ago. Louisa May Alcott, beloved children’s author of Little Women and several other books, lived in very different times when women had very limited career options. The daughter of a school teacher and one of four lively sisters, Louisa had a vivid imagination and carved a niche in literary history that has withstood the test of time. Drawing on her own experiences, she tells stories that capture the American spirit in the mid-1800’s through the great Civil War and beyond. Her support of women’s right to vote inspires young girls everywhere to follow their dreams and work for a future of your own creation.
