The manatee—a large, slow moving gentle giant—has abided in our planet’s tropical waters, rivers and bays for over 50 million years. After so much time the manatee has a long history of survival and intrigue. Once mistaken as mermaids by seafaring explorers, manatees are now on the International Endangered Wildlife list and in danger of extinction due to human interaction with their habitats. Impacts include boating accidents, water pollution or ingestion of non-biodegradable trash. What can you do to help this gentle giant?
