Rams, mules, birds, and bulldogs have found their way into the U.S. military ranks. No, they did not enlist! They’re all mascots serving as representatives of the separate armed forces. Great thought is taken to identify just the right animal to play an important role that brings pride and recognition when military members engage in sports or other competitive activities. Additionally, mascots unify a military group—much like the uniforms worn to demonstrate solidarity within a branch of military. They lead the chants, songs, and cheers to encourage athletes to try their best. They deserve recognition, too … so three cheers for mascots and the joy they bring to friendly competition! Hip hip hooray!
