Coins jingling in your pocket and paper money in a wallet make it easy to buy goods and services you need. But for thousands of years people traded items instead of using money. Hauling around milk or eggs to trade for fruits and vegetables is a simple—but not very practical—idea. Trading became easier when people began using precious metals to purchase materials and even easier when those metals became coins. Today we use money conveniently for purchases and can appreciate monetary efficiency when compared to the past.
