Protecting civil liberties requires commitment and sometimes great personal sacrifice. This issue acknowledges the contributions of American Veterans who have served our country past and present. Young readers will meet an Air Force veteran and his canine companion, Jason, and learn how Jason allows a freedom fighter to have more freedom at home. Activities focus on Veterans’ Day and include cyber visits to a Veteran’s Memorial, crafts, symbols and articles that remind us all that living in a free society comes at a cost.
In this issue students will:

- make a poster honoring heroes
- recognize and use adjectives and nouns in reading and writing
- use the internet to locate information
