In late summer and early fall some animals sense the changing seasons and respond to nature’s alarm clock to preserve the life of their species. Among those animals are salmon who return to their own birthplace to lay and fertilize eggs – sometimes traveling thousands of miles against strong currents. Adult salmon mysteriously find their way back to river beds where their eggs will hatch and grow until the young fish are large enough to return to the ocean. This “running of the salmon” is unlike any race you’ve ever run, for once they’ve spawned their eggs safely in the bed of the river, these parents leave the youngsters to fend for themselves.
