Science is fun, but slimy science is even more fun. This issue takes young scientists into the garden to learn about gastropods—otherwise known as the common snail. Not many animals can carry their homes on their backs as they slither across the yard on a silvery trail! Fascinating features of these fascinating creatures include a breathing hole, eyes at the end of their tentacles, and a body that serves as a foot. Students will be introduced to life science as they enjoy learning about this soft-bodied mollusk and understand the contributions snails make to our ecosystems.
In this issue students will:
- follow directions to create a Snail Hotel
- use math to solve a snail race
- design ads for the newspaper
- practice spelling and editing skills
- write to include main idea and details
