Smokey Bear first scampered up a tree to escape forest flames over seven decades ago. Since then he has become a beloved national symbol for wildfire prevention and the official “spokesbear” for forest safety. Wildfires still happen and are sometimes caused by human error … so Smokey Bear has a full time never-ending job to remind humans that forests can thrive and stay fire free if people follow common sense and simple rules. Smokey’s advice has guided generations of children—and their parents—to be better stewards of the great American outdoors. Join us in wishing Smokey the best as we celebrate his 75th birthday. Just remember to be careful when blowing out those candles!
