Summer Activities

← Continue shopping

Warm summer weather easily beckons families outdoors for games and activities. Playing outside is a great way to stay in shape, and making time for fitness that feels more like a game than exercise is a summer bonus. This issue highlights inexpensive and easy-to-follow activities using items found around the house or at a local dollar store. Try filling balloons to make water piñatas that both refresh and entertain hot busy kids. Grab some sponges and a bucket for a quick game of “bucketball.” Discover how to turn sticks and twigs into a game of skill. Look around the house and imagine what you can do with what’s already there! Soon you’ll be inventing games of your own while staying cool—and fit—with summer fun in the sun!

In this issue students will:

  • read and follow written directions
  • understand rules for games and exercise
  • gather and paint twigs for pick-up-sticks
  • use sponges for exercise fun
  • recycle the newspaper into a ball and bat
  • complete a summer pattern
  • exercise your brain with numbers in the news
  • write persuasively about the cutest animal in the world (in your opinion)
  • learn a fun water balloon dance
