Teachers work hard every week planning lessons, organizing subjects, helping kids, and giving care and love to their students. Teacher Appreciation Week gives students and their families an opportunity to say “Thank You” to our educational heroes for a job well done! This issue takes a deeper look at why teachers are special and will inspire ways to show appreciation. Typically occurring in May, this week provides time to honor teachers with notes, cards, drawings, poems, flowers from your yard, kind words and special activities. What will you, your family, your class, or your school plan to show your appreciation?
In this issue students will:
- read informational text about teachers, teaching as a career, and Teacher Appreciation Week
- identify characteristics of teachers who make a positive impact
- calculate sums and differences
- edit for spelling
- add vowels using context clues to spell words correctly
- create a “thank you ad” using pictures and words in the news
- write descriptively to honor a favorite teacher
- go on a shopping spree using items for sale in the newspaper
