STEM stands for “Science Technology Engineering and Math” – and includes engaging ways to view the world of everyday things. In this special series, Chevron and the U.S. Golf Association have teamed up to bring golf to life and introduce young readers to the STEM behind the game! This issue goes deeply into the engineering of the most basic of golf equipment – the remarkable golf ball. Students will learn about the history of its design, the anatomy of its construction and why a dimpled ball is far better than a smooth one. Along the way students will discover the test laboratory at the USGA – and begin to learn exactly how much fun engineers and scientists have at their jobs.
