Why celebrate World Press Freedom Day on May 3rd each year? Because having the “right” to “write” about events honestly and accurately in not something found in every country around the world. Writing freely means people—especially journalists and reporters—can express their ideas, opinions, and beliefs without fear of retribution. Discover how important “freedom of the press” is to preserving a democracy. Learn why it’s important to remember, honor, and celebrate the brave people who fought and sacrificed for the press to be free. Understand how to check and double check for accurate information on the internet. Put on your reporter’s cap, grab a pencil, and join Kid Scoop as we celebrate our right to write!
