From InnTownCampground.com comes this great recipe for Halloween Lady Fingers. You can buy ready-made dough from the store or make it from the recipe below. Enlist an adult to help you with the cooking part.
- 1 cup (room temp.) butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 egg
Cream these 4 ingredients.
Add 2 3/4 cup flour and 1 tsp. baking powder, roll into log, wrap in wax paper and refrigerate 1/2 hour or until you are ready to use.
Form Cookies: Roll a small amount of dough into a finger shape, fatter on one end than the other. Make 3 cuts (1/3 of the way through the dough) about 1/3 and 2/3’s of the way down, like a real finger. Press a slivered almond down and into the narrow end of dough. Rub around “nail” and knuckle creases with cinnamon. Bake at 325 degrees for 20-25 min.
For blood, heat 1/2 cup jelly, 1/3 cup sugar and a mixture of 1 tbsp. corn starch and 1/2 cup water. Heat on stove top until melted and thick. Dip end of finger in “blood.” You can put a dab under nail if loose to keep in place. Add red food coloring if you want to make blood a deeper red (or you could just dip each “finger” into raspberry jam).
For witches fingers, add green food coloring to dough and paint slivered almonds with black icing (egg whites, powdered sugar and black food coloring).
This dough recipe is the best for cut out cookies as it does not lose its shape in the oven.
